soft pull for FHA loan (2024)

is there a way i can do a soft pull for pre-approve an FHA loan?

A soft pull can be done and it can be used to pre-qualify you, but eventually a hard inquiry will be needed.

Most mortgage brokers and some lenders can do a soft credit check/pull.

Big name banks (Wells Fargo, BofA, NFCU, etc.) usually do not do a soft credit check.

Do you know what your mortgage scores are? Where are you looking to buy?

Do you already have an FHA loan and looking to refinance or a purchase and what state? Like@ShanetheMortgageMansaid, stick with brokers, correspondent lenders but stay away from loanDepot, Rocket Mtg, banks as they all hard pull.

I want to do it myself and learn to buy a house myself without going thru a loan officer nor a realtor. no i dont know my mortgage scores. i just checked my credit free credit karma and exprian scores around 650-680.

Unfortunately you cannot do your own mortgage unless you become a licensed or registered Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO).

Becoming a licensed MLO requires you to take at least 20 hours of education, pass a national SAFE Act test, then applying for a MLO license in the state the property is located in. You also need to be sponsored or hired by a company who also holds a license in the state the property is located in.

Becoming a registed MLO requires you to get hired at a bank, CU or other depository, but does not require you take the education component or pass a national test, although all banks/CU's/depositories usually require you to take a minimum amount of hours of education each year.

CK uses Vantage scores and are not used in the mortgage industry, some CK users have stated their scores have been off by 30-80 pts different than Fico 8 and Fico 5,4,2 scores. CK is good to know who you owe debt too and whether your scores are trending down/up.
